OSCAR PERRY HONORED BY SCDJFS

Oscar Perry was honored by the Scioto County Department of Job & Family Services on

Wednesday, November 6, 2024, for his nearly 40 years of service on their Planning Committee. Mr. Perry began his service in 1988, serving as a member of the Welfare Advisory Board with the Scioto County Department of Human Services, also referred to at that time as the Welfare Office.

In 1995, Mr. Perry became President of the Welfare Advisory Board and served in that

position until the duties of the board changed with the merger of the Ohio Department of

Human Services and the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in 2000. At that time, the

agency’s name was changed to the Scioto County Department of Job and Family Services, and the role of the Welfare Advisory Board changed to that of a Planning Committee.

Mr. Perry has served and continues to serve, on what is now called the SCDJFS Planning Committee. Mr. Perry is proud to acknowledge that he has served under 5 Directors of SCDJFS, excluding the current director. Mr. Perry was surprised when he was honored at the meeting with statements of appreciation from all but one of these past directors of SCDJFS.

He began service under Paul Dettwiller, who has since passed away. He saw the most transition under Director Sue Hegarty, who served as Director from 1988-1996. That was followed by Ruby Grant, who served as Director from 1996-1999. Sharon Mundhenk came next, serving as Director from 1999-2010. Ms. Mundhenk was in charge during the name change from Human Services to Job & Family Services. Then, Paige Robbins served as Director from 2011-2018.

The current Director is Tammy Moore Morton, who began her role as director in 2018.

After all the statements from past directors were read to Mr. Perry, he humbly shared that all

of his service as a board/committee member for JFS and for other multiple community

organizations, his being a pastor, his education, and everything about him was completely

credited to two things: his God and his wife. He stated was a very blessed man. He and his wife Betty have been married for 68 years.
